Christian Singles Talk about Online Dating

In December of 2009 Carol wrote a letter to God. She asked Him to send her a Christian man and, not wanting to leave too much up to fate, even added a few specifics about what she was looking for. It wasn’t until July of 2015 that she met Paul on the online dating site Zoosk, that has a lot of Christian singles. As it so happened, back in that same December of 2009 Paul also asked God to meet a Christian woman with his own list of what he was looking for.

“Almost everything we compared was the same,” said Paul about their matching requests. “There were way too many confirmations to ignore. It was meant to be.”

Paul and Carol were married in September of that year, and though their love story is unique, the way they were brought together is becoming more and more common. The online dating site they met on, Zoosk, now has over 300,000 Christian subscribers—that’s more than ChristianMingle.

To shed some light on what it’s like online dating as a Christian, a few of the Christian members who met on Zoosk shared their thoughts about how Christian men and women use the site to meet each other.

Meeting Other Christians Outside of Your Church
One of the most obvious places to meet someone who shares your values is through your church, but many Christian daters find that the number of singles in their communities gets smaller over time. That’s where online dating comes in.

“I would say I was at a point in my life where I surrendered my fate over to
God, knowing that it was in his timing that I would find Mr. Right,” said one dater Brenda. “Taking a proactive approach to meet people through online dating was a must due to my busy schedule and the fact that I don’t hang out at bars. I decided to try Zoosk, and within a week I received a message from Dan. He said it was a photo of me in my Texas Christian University (TCU) visor that caught his eye.”

Finding Someone You Connect with Spiritually
Brenda wasn’t the only dater to experience a spiritual bond with someone she met online. Christians dating online on Zoosk said they felt an instant connection with the other person from looking at his or her profile that carried on into the first date.

“He was looking for a Christian woman and I was looking for a Christian man. Our profiles were almost identical,” said Cathy when telling the story of how she met her husband Jeff on Zoosk. “We had an amazing connection that first time we got together and we spent five hours just talking. We are so blessed and happy together.”

Giving God a Place in Your Relationship Together
Some of the couples who met on Zoosk felt that God was a presence throughout their relationship—while they were searching for Christian singles online, meeting on their first date, and as the relationship progressed to something more serious.

“On our first date I knew he was a keeper because he took my hand and said a prayer when our meal came to the table,” said Cindy, of her future husband Mike. “At the end of the meal, he gave me a sweet soft kiss. It was the most wonderful feeling.”

“Upon joining our church and growing together in our walk with Christ, our love for one another deepened,” explained another dater Nicole. “It led us to take the next step of our incredible journey.”

When you’re looking to date a fellow Christian, sometimes that incredible journey can begin in the most unexpected of places. Online dating sites that have a large Christian membership like Zoosk can provide a way to meet a larger pool of Christians who share your interests and beliefs, beyond your other communities.

“There are so many things that we can share, because we have the same outlook on life,” said Minette about her experience meeting her husband on Zoosk. “We are both deep Christians and I think this makes our relationship and our marriage so much stronger. I am so blessed to have this wonderful man in my life.”
